Children of divorced/separated parents often feel angry and insecure when the family unit breaks up.  They frequently worry about whether they will continue to see both their parents and what the relationship will be like after the divorce.  They worry they may have done something to cause the divorce or that they could have prevented it.  Young children, especially, tend to take credit for whatever happens in the world – good or bad.  The children find that one or both of the parents are emotionally unavailable because they are so drained or preoccupied with their own difficulties.

This group offers the opportunity to meet with others who share similar experiences.   Children who join the group have parents who are separated, divorced, or remarried.  Often children feel that their situation is unique, that no one else feels the way they do. 

Kidz Coaching provides opportunities for self-awareness, sharing with others, problem-solving, and better communication skills with families. The children can be in various stages, from those who experienced divorce five years ago as well as those currently involved in divorce. 

Children who were involved in divorce many years ago can be role models to help the other children realize that there are other stages besides the immediate crisis stage. It is important for the children to feel a sense of belonging.  This group helps the children express themselves in a positive manner without being judged by others.  All of the children benefit from learning from each other.
